Supply kebab sticks or straws, elastic bands and string and a cup with a kebab
stick through the top. Scouts have to make a free standing structure which will
support the cup full of water so that the base of the cup is at least 50cm
above the floor/table on which the support is standing. The structure can only
be tested with half a cup of water before the judging! Extra points given for
the least number of sticks used.
Scouts worked in patrols and we had 3 bases
Make a model camp site from cardboard, cut up kebab sticks and glue (20 mins)
Lay out kit for kit inspection, checkfor missing items and repack the rucksack
correctly (10 mins)
Patrol leaders teach how to fold the flag correctly (10 mins)
(The model camp sites will be displayed at the AGM in March)
Based on eggs!
Relay race with eggs - rolling the eggs with their noses
Working in patrols to produce something to prevent an egg breaking when dropped
from a height. Materials supplied were carrier bag, 5 sheets paper, bubble
wrap, margerine pot, 6 balloons, string. All patrols succeeded and not one egg
Egg and spoon race
Talked about landmines
Drew a 5 x 5 grid on the floor, half scouts designated 6 squares as having land
mines in them.
Remaining Scouts moved one square at a time aiming to reach the other side of
the grid. Anyone who stepped on a mine was blown up, anyone on either side of a
square which blew up lost an arm, then the other arm then a leg.
Everybody had a go as a 'villager' or a 'soldier' then we discussed how it felt
from both sides.
Thought about ways of saving water
Discussed why we need water
Had a relay race in which Scouts carried a measured amount of water in a pot
carried on their back. Patrol with most water in the pot at the end or the
relay won. Scouts got wet, the floor got a wash and a good time was had by all.
